An update from Mumbai's Trendiest Festival.

At the intersection of 90’s NYC-LA pop-surf culture and 80’s Japanese streetwear movement, with the ever evolving rap-genre and contemporary art in between, stands the global streetwear.

This fusion with India’s multiverse of cultural aesthetics, carves out the current and futuristic streetwear space in the South-Asian subcontinent. We are talking traditional kurtas with ripped baggy jeans and sneakers under bridal lehengas. Like all other lifestyle trends, Indian youth embraces them with their bespoke authentic styles. The streetwear map of India is dotted with up-and-coming indie brands and artists that find a bonafide representation at All You Can Street Mumbai (AYCS). The 2024 edition of AYCS is anticipated on 24-25-26 May at the JIO world convention centre.

In the following interview with All You Can Street Organizers — Abhishek Gandhi and Yash Shetty take us through the highlights of the approaching weekender.

The Beauty Zone: Where Indie Beauty Meets Festival Fun

For the first time AYCS is set to showcase a mini beauty bazaar where the skincare junkies and makeup mavens can discover new beauty favourites. “You can meet local beauty founders and explore cool, young and indie brands that are a little more intimate and unique in their ways. It was our aim to promote brands that one cannot find at the massive retailing racks but deserve a trial and swatch session at the event”, explains Shetty.

Supporting the homegrown brands and local artisans, AYCS is going to showcase more than 50 brands spanning across fashion, beauty, homeware, and accessories. The lineup for Mumbai fashion festival revolves around art, music, creativity and good company! The unique experiences at AYCS involve a screening room and performances by over 15 artists, including Yung Raja, HanuMankind and Chaar Diwaari. “My favourite part is for sure going to be the sustainable street section where one can find eco-friendly wearables and the jumbotron”, says Shetty.

Some of the other activities at the event will be tattoo art, tooth gem application, fire photo ops, art experiences and game nights. Besides such affairs, the flea space for shopping is a must check-out. To avail your passes, head to paytm Insider.

A Treasure Trove Awaits: Exploring the All You Can Flea

The idea behind All You Can Flea according to Shetty was to create an immersive and inclusive shopping space while celebrating the indie brands, culture and creativity. “We wanted a shopping space that is more fun for families, couples and friends. They don’t have to necessarily adhere to streetwear style or belong to any particular background. The flea area is imagined to be universally accepted by the entire city”.

At this Mumbai flea market, there are scores of brands that are young and emerging through their online presence and AYCS’ intention during the curation process was to provide a platform that allows such creative visionaries to do more. “There are many up and coming young brands who want to do something in the street-space and reach a larger audience. Our goal is to cater to those who strive to achieve more and grow bigger”, says Shetty.

We asked Shetty about his go-to streetwear moodboard when looking to shop at the flea — or him “boot cut pants, an oversized shirt with a nice sling bag, accessories and chunky sneakers make the cut for my shopping cart!”
